Greg Shaw specializes in adventure and wildlife photography. His images and essays have appeared in magazines, environmental education, scientific and government publications actively promoting conservation and protection of bio-diversity and cultural heritage. Greg's publications/clients include Action Asia (cover feature), Asian Geographic, Borealis (cover feature), British Columbia, Equinox, Lifestyle and Travel, Nature Canada, Smithsonian and Tropical Arts and Culture magazines. His images were presented in "Nyiramachabelli," an opera based on the life of Dian Fossey and performed by the Kentucky Opera. He was also coordinating-author and editor of Oceans: Charting a course in the national best-selling book, The State of Canada's Environment.

As an environmental photojournalist, Greg is noted for his ability to weave an artistic blend of sciences into his photostories and capture "unseen" images on film. During his degree in marine biology and environmental sciences, Greg worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Bamfield Marine Station, Vancouver Island, and at Friday Harbor Marine Laboratories, Washington, where he studied animal behavior and published scientific papers, documentary photography and illustrations.

In 2007 Greg was a finalist of Smithsonian's Through Our Readers' Eyes competition (travel category) and between 2007 and 2008 fourteen of his images reached the finals or semi-finals of the BBC/Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (categories: animal behavior: birds (2 images), animal behavior: mammals (2 images), animal portraits, animals in their environment, underwater world (2 images), wild places (2 images), in praise of plants (2 images) and the new One Earth Award (2 images).

Greg Shaw has taken advanced professional workshops* with Nevada Wier, Mauricio Handler, Charles "Flip" Nicklin, Frans Lanting and Michael "Nick" Nichols at locations including the Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia, Santa Cruz and Santa Fe, U.S.A., and the British Virgin Islands. Greg's photo stories are produced using Canon digital equipment.
